SILENT OBSERVERS • DTLA – Opening Reception (REN Gallery)

January 18 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

If you watch a building long enough you will see it come alive.
SILENT OBSERVERS • DTLA by Miguel Rodriguez

In “Silent Observers * DTLA”, a solo exhibition featuring artist Miguel Rodriguez, you will experience a fresh perspective on Downtown LA architecture.  Rodriguez has found a way to bring attention to the buildings he has photographed with a stunning capture of light and shadow in black and white photography, with a focus on the ornamental and structural details that give each building their unique character.  He has honored the architects who have built our city with his close up still photography as well as time lapse photography.  Rodriguez has composed short films of DTLA architecture through time-lapse photography, allowing the viewer to watch the light travel over the buildings as they are captured from multiple angels, experiencing the sunrise falling well into the night.  Miguels son, Noah Rodriguez, also collaborated on this project by composing music for each short film.  Noah will perform live on the opening night of the exhibition.
Originally born in Venezuela, Miguel has worked in many cities around the world including Miami, New York, Detroit, Latin America, Spain, and now Downtown Los Angeles, which has been his home for over a decade.   His appreciation for art and architecture is overwhelmingly apparent in the way he has captured images of these often overlooked structures in our city.
The Opening reception is on Saturday January 18th, from 5 to 9pm
The exhibit will run from January 18th to March 1st.
